Walter Jerry Payton (July 25, 1954 November 1, 1999) was an American football running back who played for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL) for thirteen seasons. Payton was known around the NFL as “Sweetness”. A nine-time Pro Bowl selectee, Payton is remembered as a prolific rusher, once holding records for career rushing yards, touchdowns, carries, yards from scrimmage, all-purpose yards, and many other categories. He was also versatile, and retired with the most receptions by a non-receiver, and had eight career touchdown passes. He was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Hall of Fame NFL player and coach Mike Ditka described Payton as the greatest football player he had ever seenbut even greater as a human being. This is a limited edition 1996 pewter casting #183 of 400 pieces by famed Colorado sculpture/artist Michael Ricker. Item is in excellent condition and shows no signs of wear or damage. Figure is mounted on a what appears to be a solid marble base. Weight is 15 lbs. Are 10 1/2 x 9 x 5 1/2. Item is autographed by Walter Payton and includes both the Certificate of Title and Certificate of Authenticity. This is an extremely rare sports memorabilia piece from an estate collection of over 100 assorted Michael Ricker hard-to-find collectible figures. Additional Sports Signature Series in this estate collection consists of autographed figures from such sports as baseball, football, basketball, hockey, golf and auto racing.
